Recrutement post-doctorat : at the interface of neutrino physics with geoscience

The French excellence programme “LabEx UnivEarthS” has an opening for a postodoctoral position at the interface of neutrino physics with geoscience.
The activity will be based at the AsrtoParticle and Cosmology (APC) Laboratory in Paris and close collaboration with the Institut de Physique du Globe (IPGP) is foreseen.
The research activity will be focused on the use of elementary particles as probes of their sources and of the matter they have traversed.
APC has a well-established experience in particle detection and simulation, while IPGP has the expertise to use this kind of data for geological studies. Particles are used as probes of the Earth’s interior in two ways:
1) neutrinos form the decay of radioactive elements in the crust and mantle (geo-neutrinos) to gather information on the composition and distribution of the radioactive elements whose decay provides a large fraction of the Earth’s thermal power;
2) geophysical tomography with muon telescopes, to map the internal density structure of volcanoes.
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for developing analysis and simulation tools for the interpretation of muon tomography data. Expertise on this topic will be acquired through a participation in the Double Chooz reactor neutrino experiment, with focus on the study of cosmic muon background.
(S)he will also contribute to the conception and development of future large-scale neutrino detectors, in the context of the LBNO-WA105 project.
The position will be opened for two years, starting September 1st, 2014.
The deadline for application is May 30th, 2014.
Candidates are requested to submit applications, including a CV and a cover letter, and to arrange for 3 recommendation letters to be sent (preferably by e-mail) to:
