Colloquium APC – “The Planck Legacy and Beyond: Mapping the Initial Conditions of the Universe”

Martin Bucher  will give a colloquium entitled “The Planck Legacy and Beyond: Mapping the Initial Conditions of the Universe” (abstract and poster below), in 454A at 11am on Friday, Sep 14.
UnivEarthS supports the project Planck at APC through the team F2: From the Big Bang to the future Universe, of which Martin Bucher is a member.

Title: The Planck Legacy and Beyond: Mapping the Initial Conditions of the Universe

Abstract:
On 17 July 2018 the Planck Collaboration released nine of the twelve papers of its final 2018 Results for Cosmology Release including a summary of the cosmological
legacy of the ESA Planck mission. (See https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/planck/publications.) The remaining three papers are in preparation and will appear shortly.
The Laboratoire APC was very actively involved in many aspects of Planck, and especially in the analysis and scientific exploitation. I shall summarize some of the highlights of the Planck mission and also indicate some future directions in CMB research, thus showing that despite the fact that Planck has been able to answer some questions almost at the cosmic variance limit, many interesting new frontiers remain in observations of the microwave sky.
