March 2013: Borexino explores Earth radioactivity by measuring geo-neutirnos

Fifteen anti-neutrinos coming from the Earth’s interior, called geo-neutrinos, have been observed in the Borexino experiment, installed in the  Gran Sasso underground laboratory (Italy).  These geo-neutrinos are a proof of the radioactive origin of a large part of Earth’s heat and allow to improve our knowledge of the interior of our planet.
